Sucheta's Record Creating Palk Strait Swim

Sucheta began swimming from Dhanushkodi, India at 4:56 PM on 15th March 2023, reached Talaimannar (Sri Lanka), and returned to Arichal Munai, India at 12:17 PM on 16th March 2023, completing the record-creating swim in 19 hours and 21 minutes. She covered 62 KM and is the first Indian woman in the world to set a record for the two-way swim across the Palk Strait/Ram Sethu, with the fastest time.

Sucheta Deb Burman, the founder of the Open Water Swimmers Foundation, was born in Agartala and raised in Bangalore. She says, "I may be a Bangalore girl, but my heart belongs in Agartala, Tripura." Since her father is a NIS/SAI (Sports Authority of India) swimming coach, she started swimming at the age of 4 and, by the age of 21, had won several national medals.
